Text replacement is the process of replacing standard fonts with more stylised, stylish ones, allowing web fonts to be as elaborate and original as those seen in print. Without some form of text replacement, all websites become limited to the fonts that are already installed on the majority of computers, namely Arial, Georgia, Verdana or Times New Roman, making for a bland and generic web space.

We have all worked with colleagues who are more talk than walk, and we may even have been involved in the hiring of someone who turns out not to be as good as they initially claimed. Applicants come in all shades of experience and technical ability and 5 years hands-on experience doesn’t always equate to 5 years growth in technical ability or knowledge. More often than not, the interviewee will be skilled but not nearly to the level that they claim or think.

Do you remember when a mobile phone was just a phone that could move? What did we do before the internet, games, music and lightsaber apps? Bus journeys with chavs were probably less annoying. Looking at the mobile’s journey from its humble single function beginnings to the current iterations whose multifunctionality would make the Swiss Army cry makes you realise that the evolution of the now ubiquitous device has been almost entirely driven by the user.

Things have been going a bit crazy on Twitter today with accounts suddenly taking on a life of their own, tweeting spam and redirecting people to random pages. Obviously this has caused a bit of concern for all involved and masses of Tweets are urging everyone to stay off the main Twitter page, though applications such as Tweetdeck and Hootsuite seem safe (though they still have to put up with nonsensical tweets). Don’t let anyone tell you it is easy to create a successfully engaging Facebook Fan Page. It is not. It’s not a unachievable task either although it requires planning, time, some kind of HTML knowledge, design skill and imagination. First of all you need to sit down and work out what your business objects are and plan your ideas over time.
